This medication may cause thyroid C-cell tumors, including MTC, in rodents. It is unknown if it causes such tumors in humans. Report any symptoms such as a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, or trouble swallowing to your clinician immediately.

Pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, acute kidney injury, and serious allergic reactions have been reported. Inform your clinician of any severe abdominal pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, or signs of an allergic reaction. Diabetic retinopathy complications may occur in patients with a history of diabetic retinopathy. Monitor blood sugar closely if you have diabetes.

Contraindications

Do not use this medication if you or your family have a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to Semaglutide or any components of the formulation.

It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of pancreatitis caused by GLP-1 receptor agonists. Consult your clinician for a full list of contraindications.
